Bixin, an organic and natural chemical substance, has a highly red color, and is the main compound of annatto with a coloring effect. Its color also acts actively on the antioxidant activity of annatto, protecting cells from oxidative damage from free radicals and thus ensuring the protection of skin tissue. Studies indicate that, among the entire chemical composition of annatto, 5% represent active dyes, among which, more than 80% are due to the presence of bixin. The fatty acids composition mainly composed of oleic and linoleic acids, which guarantees a high emollient power, generating excellent moisturizing properties and, as they are unsaturated, guarantees a fast and complete absorption. Other compounds, associated with the action of annatto before and after insect bites, also give the oil a natural calming, soothing property.
