NISSO HPC (Hydroxypropylcellulose) ist ein modifiziertes Derivat der Cellulose. Hydroxypropylcellulose wird durch Reaktionen von Propylenoxid mit Cellulose erhalten. Die Hydroxypropyl-Gruppe, die an Cellulose Moleküle gebunden wird, um deren Eigenschaften wie Viskosität, Gelierung und Filmbildung zu modifizieren, bildet Wasserstoffbrückenbindungen und verhindert die Wasserstoffbindung zwischen den Hydroxygruppen an der Cellulose Kette und macht HPC dadurch wasserlöslich.
