EASTMAN AQ™ 55S POLYMER is a sulfopolyester that disperses directly in hot water without the assistance of surfactants or other additives. AQ 55S polymer aids the dispersion of many hydrophobic ingredients in water-based products and forms clear films at room temperature from aqueous dispersions. Eastman AQ ™55S has good film integrity when combined with other cosmetic ingredients and is the preferred AQ polymer to improve water and smudge resistance of water-based makeup and mascaras. In hairstyling products, AQ 55S provides excellent hold under high-humidity conditions and stiffness that is easily modified with plasticizers and thickeners. The "S" indicates AQ 55S is supplied as solid pellets.

Eastman AQ™ 48 Ultra Polymer was designed specifically for use as a hair fixative in 55% VOC hairspray. Therefore, it is more compatible with higher levels of alcohol than Eastman AQ™ 38S or 55S, and has good wash out with shampooing. AQ 48 polymer provides excellent hold at high humidity in aerosol and pump hairsprays, as well as in clear styling gels.

Gafquat™ 755N polymer by Ashland Specialty Chemical acts as a fixative and conditioning agent. It is a quaternized copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate. It provides excellent lubricity on wet hair and ease of combing and detangling on dry hair. It forms clear, non-tacky, continuous films and helps build body to hair while leaving it manageable. It improves skin feel, provides smoothness during application and skin conditioning. Gafquat™ 755N polymer is suggested for use in mousses, gels, styling sprays (non-aerosol), novelty stylers, leave-in conditioning lotions, body care, color cosmetics, and facial care applications.
