Potassium Thiolgycolate

Kopcolate, known as Potassium Thioglycolate, is an organic compound used as a primary active ingredient in hair depilatory formulations. It breaks down the bonds in Keratin and weakens the hair so that it is easily scraped where it emerges from the hair follicle. Calcium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide are present in excess to enable the thioglycolic acid to react with the cystine joining chains in hair protein.
