Silkworm thorn bark extract is suitable for use in skin care applications. A research study, which tested water extracts of root, leaf, branch, and fruit of it, demonstrated its tyrosinase inhibition and elastase inhibition activities and it showed minor UVB absorbance.

MALT EXTRACT-DL has skin brightening and anti-oxidant effects. A report study reported that malt extract and germinated barley extract were more effective at inhibiting the melanin production than the barley extract was.
