Cosphaderm® Hexiol is a pure, transparent and colorless glycol. Two vicinal OH-groups and a short carbon chain allow unlimited water-solubility. This property is strongly relevant to its most common cosmetic use as a moisturizer and humectant for both skin care and hair care formulations. Static light scattering experiments have shown that Cosphaderm® Hexiol can also be used to stabilize o/w emulsions by droplet size reduction. Another core property of 1,2-hexanediol is its pH-independent antimicrobial activity. It further shows remarkable synergistic effects in combination with other antimicrobial substances, making it possible to minimize the total amount of combined preserving agents.

Cosphaderm® VBE is a skin-warming active ingredient synthetically derived from vanillin and reminiscent of its characteristic scent. The unique warming effect with a fast onset and a long-lasting sensation is mechanically similar but less irritating than capsaicin. This effect, which is directly linked to vasodilation, as well as its ability to increase local blood flow, makes Cosphaderm® VBE a great alternative to capsaicin in many personal care applications from head to toe.

This property is strongly relevant to its most common cosmetic use as a moisturizer and Humectant for both skin and hair care formulations. Cosphaderm LAAS is an aqueous mixture of levulinic acid, p-anisic acid and glycerin. Established as a highly effective combination of natural antimicrobial agents, additional skin conditioning and masking properties are provided by levulinic acid and p-anisic acid. Furthermore, the glycerin content in this preparation helps to support the hydration of the outer layer of the skin. The optimal pH range for Cosphaderm LAAS is between 5.0 and 5.5 to keep antimicrobial activity and solubility in perfect balance. This makes it a perfect choice for formulations at skin pH.
